A glimpse into our journey

About Sportstec

We assist in the organisational and programme development of agencies or corporates wishing to use sport as a vehicle to deliver social change interventions.

The Sportstec brand was established in 2006 and has a proven track record in using sport to address the requirements of numerous organisations in the areas of sports marketing and sport for development including: positive youth development, physical activity and physical education, school sport, community sport, life skills, leagues and tournaments, coach and teacher education and talent identification.

HomeGround Initiative

The Homeground Initiative is an integrated childhood to young adulthood educational programme funded by UNICEF in partnership with the National Department of Basic Education and the Sportstec Foundation.

The aim of the sports-based programme is to provide broad-based support to local primary schools, high schools and the community to enable the educational and personal development of children and young people in the isolated rural community of Geluksburg in Kwa Zulu Natal (KZN).

Michael Flockhart

Michael had a vision to set up an organization that focused on sport development targeting both government and private sectors.

This vision has allowed him to fulfill his passion of using sport as a vehicle to address positive youth development as well as assist with systemic growth of sport development structures around South Africa.

With a background in Human Movement Studies (Sports Science) and sports coaching, Michael has researched, developed and implemented sporting interventions worldwide; his primary focus being that of youth development. He has built an amazing team, who share his passion.

What we do

We provide technical support, consultation and implementation to all components of sport system delivery

Customise a Solution

We believe in the potential of sport, that when properly delivered, contributes to personal and social development.

We offer our clients/partners programme conceptualisation and design; implementation strategies and networks; monitoring and evaluation frameworks; strategic alignment of sport and sport for change models; and government policies and CSR interventions.

Interpret CSI Vision

We believe that ‘real development’ requires the transfer of knowledge and expertise, to enable NGO’s, agencies, SMME’s or corporates, providing or wanting to provide sport-for-development programmes, to be both effective and self-sustainable.

Implement high impact programmes

We specialise in the conceptualisation, strategic alignment, implementation and integration of various sport development and sport for change programmes, based on our various Sportstec programme methodologies.

Build Brand Equity

We thrive on the increasing value of our partnerships, where great ideas are shared and access to new resources, expertise and skills are facilitated.

Listening to the voice of those we work with and working with others, makes us stronger, more robust and relentless in providing sustainable interventions, which give quantifiable brand awareness and equity.

Homeground Initiative

Sustainable community development, where opportunity grows

The Sportstec Homeground Initiative is an integrated childhood to young adulthood educational programme funded by UNICEF in partnership with the National Department of Basic Education and the Sportstec Foundation.

The aim of the sports-based programme is to provide broad-based support to local primary schools, high schools and the community to enable the educational and personal development of children and young people in the isolated rural community of Geluksburg in Kwa Zulu Natal (KZN).

The initiative has an outreach school component, a Learning Centre which provides both an Early Childhood Development Centre and a facility for after-school education and sport programmes for primary and high school learners.

Importantly, the learning Centre provides a permanent community presence, focus and identity for the initiative. The D2D programme aims to have a consistent hierarchical developmental focus in which education and personal development are prioritised and each element of the programme is based on formal age-specific curricula. (See Figure Below).

Further, the sporting sessions are based on an approach called Sport to Life which regards sport as having the potential to teach young people important life lessons and skills. The Sport to Life approach aims to reinforce other life skill elements of the programme and provides a unifying philosophy and vocabulary for the D2D programme.
