Brief overview of the event
KZN’s Young Heroes high schools met at the KwaDukuza Country Club Grounds, on  the 17th of February for the 2017 version of their Mini Olympics. Learners from our five high schools came eagerly prepared, to show us what they were made of when it comes to athletics.

Nobody was deterred by threats of Cyclone Deneo’s approach as, all schools came out in numbers to be part of the joyous event.

Highlight of the event
The final event of the day was a 4x100m relay. This event always brings produces the most excitement and loudest cheers out of the spectators. This was also the case at this year’s Mini Olympics.
Hero of the day
The tiny-figured, Gugu Naidoo of Tshelenkosi Secondary, became a big hero when she won the girls’ 800m race. She was late off the starting line and only joined race about 50 meters behind the rest of the group. She steadily picked up and found herself in first place, 50 meters from the finish line.
